Our City's Sesquicentennial (2023)

Richardson, Texas Sesqucentennial emblem

In 1873, the town of Richardson was founded by the Houston & Texas Central Railroad. In 2023, the citizens of Richardson, will celebrate their city's 150th birthday or "Sesquicentennial." The last time the citizens of Richardson celebrated the city's founding was fifty years ago, in 1973, when the city's 100th birthday or Centennial was commemorated with a fair, a parade, two musical pageants, and a host of other activities.

Just as in 1973, the Richardson Historical & Genealogical Society looks forward to having both an advisory and active role in the planning and implementation of celebratory activities, which the society hopes will result in a reawakened interest to the city's history and also a renewed interest in preserving it for future generations.

Presently (October 2022), we are just getting started. Our very first project is to publish a Sesquicentennial Souvenir Calendar, but that's just the beginning. Please visit this page again sometime in the future to see what else we are going to do!
